What is Dr. Phil Jones saying here?
Question by Ottawa Mike: What is Dr. Phil Jones saying here?
Two quotes from Dr. Phil Jones of UEA fame:
“…(Dr. Jones) agreed that two periods in recent times had experienced similar warming. And he agreed that the debate had not been settled over whether the Medieval Warm Period was warmer than the current period.”
“I’m a scientist trying to measure temperature. If I registered that the climate has been cooling I’d say so. But it hasn’t until recently – and then barely at all. The trend is a warming trend.”

Unless somebody has some context that I can’t see, Dr. Jones implies that the MWP may actually have been warmer than today and also that there has been a recent cooling trend (barely).
Does this jive with what people here say about those issues?

And now we have a lot of believers, who will tell you what the context is. Never mind that they get their “facts” from some blog like ecohuddle. It is the truth because it fits within their own context.
Until Dr. Jones goes on BBC television and says it himself, and has something to prove he isn’t making it up to cover his own hyde, I will go on assuming whatever context I see fit.
Should we toss in Dr. Mann’s bogus hockey stick graph while we are at it?
