Where can I get a slutty Renaissance fair costume?

Question by Screecheel: Where can I get a slutty Renaissance fair costume?
I’m going with my boyfriend, but I have no idea where I can get a costume that doesn’t look childish. I’m thinking about getting shoes from this site http://www.pleaserusa.com/%5Cregular.asp?div=5_FUNTASMA

Thanks!

There is no better place than to make your own. This allows for reality and that personal touch, as only history can do.

What are you looking at? Medieval? Pirate? This will help a lot to know. But, for the most part, all women do the same thing. Less is more, as long as the Church is involved.

So, your typical bar girl, a wench, would have a traditional exposed shoulder top, and skirt. Shoes are optional, but almost required today. Then, well, money meant you could afford shoes, and most didn’t have it. High heels, well, sexy today, but not in the past. Most were flats, so… But, it was what was UNDER them that mattered. Nothing. Nada. Nude. No bras or even panties. Face it, it was just more to take off and slowed you down. Not much as far as hair styles went either. Long and loose, or pony-tailed.

On the seas, you would dress like a man. If you have a lot to hide, you wrap them down to hide that you’re a woman, but… Never undress, as it shows you’re not a male.

If you’re a woman in a fancy house, well, best not get caught. Wear enough to look the part, but… Slave or lady, you wouldn’t get caught because it was punishable in most areas.

I’ll use Museum Replicas’ site since I know it, but any style like these would work. Take a pirates shirt or the Port Royal Shirt, or a chemise for the top, and a skirt for the lower. Not normally a whole dress, but you could. Let the top ride off of your shoulders, no bra, or be open in front to show some cleavage. The under-dress would work, with a bodice. You could use that to lift up to imply more there, if not gifted.

Remember, clothing hasn’t changed that much. The fancier you get, the cheaper it looks today. Plain and simple is best, unless you can put the cash out to really do it well. And, in most cases, real upper class women were not slutty. Children were a need, so… If you felt fun during sex, it was a sin, and it meant you were lower class. Times have changed, but not dress.
